Before First Touch Games existed as we know it today, a small developer called X2 Games dared to take the leap into something that seemed almost impossible in 2009: a serious football simulator for mobile devices and not just any mobile device, but only for iOS, at a time when the iPhone was still an exclusive novelty. Thus was born X2 Football 2009, a revolutionary game for its time, which surprised not with its depth of modes or graphics, but with being one of the first titles with truly fluid touch controls, realistic gameplay, and a serious sports setting, all packaged for an iPhone screen.

This first X2 didn't have leagues or clubs. It was entirely focused on national teams, which gave it the feel of an international tournament from the start. Although it didn't have full official licenses, many teams were represented with colors, partial names, and squad structures resembling real-life ones. A surprising detail for the time was that some teams had their national anthem played before the match as part of a short presentation cinematic. This simple but moving touch made the player feel like they were part of a world-class event, even on a first-generation iPod Touch or iPhone. Quiet Innovation At a time when mobile games were mostly casual, X2 Football 2009 dared to offer: Responsive and dynamic touch controls, with a virtual stick and action buttons. A passing, dribbling, and shooting system that was surprisingly complex for its time. A custom tournament mode, which allowed you to create your own competitions between national teams. Furthermore, performance was well optimized, allowing the game to run smoothly on the limited devices of the time. This earned it a small but loyal fanbase, who would eagerly await future releases.

Although X2 Football 2009 went somewhat unnoticed by the general public, it was the seed of the entire First Touch football universe. The basic mechanics tested there would evolve in X2 Football 2010, and eventually lay the foundation for historic series like First Touch Soccer and Dream League Soccer. It was the first step. A humble one, but a firm one. Because before clubs, leagues, gems, and stars... there were only a few teams, a good controller, and a big dream: playing real football from the palm of your hand.
